Now for a little bit about us.....
Sew Unique Creations was born in 1997, after the birth of my son. I wanted to work from home and still be involved in the creative industry. I started out by doing many craft shows in my area and also renting space in local and far away craft malls. Soon my youngest daughter came along (they are only 14 months apart!!) and I realized more than ever the need to focus more on my family and stay home with my little ones--they were really a handle full to take back and forth to my shows! The year after her birth in 1999, I stopped doing craft shows and turned my creative energies more to designing. This is when I really came alive. We started small, taking all of our creations that I had been making for my craft shows and putting them into pattern form. The beginning was slow and all new to me.
In the fall of 2000, I turned my creative focus to becoming an exhibitor at International Quilt Market, which was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the spring of 2001. I developed a larger line of products that included dolls, quilts, stitchery, appliqué and pennyrug patterns. This is when my dreams became a reality. That spring of 2001 opened many doors for us that we continue to cherish and dwell upon.
Since that beginning show in Atlantic City we've been to Houston, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, Portland, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Minneapolis, Minnesota & Salt Lake City, Utah! And we've also been blessed to be a part of hundreds of trunk shows around the world, you might have even seen our designs in your local quilt shop and American Patchwork and Quilting Magzine!
Today we are also progressing in the world of book writing! We have self published 3 books, "Pennyrugs & Pillow Thangs", "A View Through My Window" & "The Primer For Rug Hooking". Plus, one book we have written was published by KP Books and is titled "Wool Rug Hooking". We also have a book published with Kansas City Star in 2011 titled Simply Charming: Small Scrap Quilts of Yesteryear. We have another book coming out soon by Kansas City Star that is "yet to be named" but is a book jamm packed with wool and cotton quilts - all small ones! Then in the spring of 2014 our follow up book to Simply Charming will be available through Kansas City Star! We have also had a total of 6 quilt projects published in American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine!
Our next trade show will be in October of 2015 in Houston, Texas. We have decided to take the year 2014 and spring 2015 off from vending at trade shows to focus more on our creative endeavors. These trade shows are for the wholesale market only, but I'd love to meet some of my customers while traveling if possible!
You may wonder how we go about designing our things. Sometimes I draw out my designs first, or I've even been known to use a few of my daughters drawings (she drew several of the primitive flowers you see in the book "A View Through My Window"). Sometimes I also just start cutting out shapes and arranging them to look appealing. I'm not good with a computer, so my mouse drawing abilities are limited. There are times when I'll wake in the middle of the night with another new idea and I'll jot it down on the notebook I keep by my bedside. Then there are other times that I start a new project after I put the kids to bed and work like crazy until I realize it's 4 in the morning! Oops!
I work mostly from home in my home office and studio space, but have also been known to take the good old laptop and sewing machine on the road on one of our many camping adventures, or you can sometimes find me stitching while my husband is driving us down the road! We are big campers here and look forward every year to school letting out so that we are free to roam to country side!
Thank you to all of our past and current customers, without you my job would not be as fun and spontaneous as it is. Thank you also to my family!
